CNAR is pleased to launch a new “UnLearn and Learn” Series to support the regulatory community in its work and learning journey in equity, diversity, and inclusion, and truth and reconciliation. What are we "UnLearning"? This series supports the "UnLearning" of biases or assumptions we unconsciously hold. These may be personal biases; they may also exist structurally in our organizations, systems, and society. This series will help us identify our blind spots and help determine how to change our practices.

This series, which will be presented throughout 2023, will give participants the opportunity to learn from experts, peers in the regulatory community, and engage in discussions in a safe space.

CNAR’s first UnLearn and Learn session will be on Gender Diversity and Gender-Inclusive Communications.

Kai Scott, President, TransFocus Consulting Inc., will provide a session on the foundations of gender diversity and inclusion, including the following topics:

  • Foundational key concepts and terms related to gender identity.

  • Inclusion and unintentional exclusion in existing practices, systems, and spaces.

  • Tips and tools to ensure respectful interactions with trans colleagues and clients, including pronouns, mistake recovery, and gender-inclusive language and practices.

  • Reviewing communications and changing forms.

  • Developing optional demographic questions to better understand applicants and registrants.

  • Supporting staff and volunteers with resources and training.

  • Setting expectations of registrants by bringing a gender diversity and inclusion lens to develop new Professional Practice Guidelines: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
