Join us on February 8th, 2024 at 12:00 – 1:15 pm ET for our first UnLearn and Learn Session of 2024. In recognition of Black History Month, this session will provide an opportunity for regulators to learn more about anti-Black racism and how to address it. Participants will also receive information to help unlearn common myths and judgements about the experience of Blackness in Canada.
Amorell Saunders N’Daw, Principal, Amorell & Co., will lead this highly engaging conversation that will feature storytelling, historical facts and figures, and compelling statistics. Throughout the session, attendees will have the opportunity to:
Reflect on their knowledge, understanding, place, and experience in relation to Black history and addressing anti-Black racism.
Build awareness and cultural competency about anti-Black racism.
Learn about what an organization’s commitment to addressing anti-Black racism can look like.
Explore how regulators can make addressing anti-Black racism actionable in regulatory functions.
Stefanie Muhling, Manager, Standards of Practice and Education Unit, and Olivia Yu, Manager of Communications, from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) will then present about related actions taken and resources developed by the OCT, such as the Professional Advisory on Anti-Black Racism, to build teachers’ (registrants’) awareness of anti-Black racism. The OCT worked with Amorell Saunders N’Daw to develop this professional advisory for teachers.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with presenters through polls and Q&A.
